SNIDER WELCOMES CHALLENGE OF RACING AT TRI-COUNTY

-Confident He Can Contend For Victory In His First-Ever Visit To Western North Carolina Track-

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (June 10, 2015) – Entering Friday’s 100-lap battle for the CARS Tour Late Model Stock Car division at Tri-County Motor Speedway, only seven points separate leader Brayton Haws from third-place Myatt Snider. Even though Snider has never raced on the 4/10ths-mile oval, he is confident he can keep up the consistency that has made him a major player in the tight points battle.

“Tri-County is another one of the tracks that we will be racing on for the first time when we get there,” said Snider, the hard-charging 20-year-old who is focusing on winning the CARS Tour points championship during the series’ inaugural season. “We had hoped to get some test time there in advance, but the track isn’t available until Thursday. Instead, we’re planning on doing some more testing at Hickory between now and then.

“I love the challenge of going to new race tracks,” said Snider, the only CARS Tour LMSC competitor to post top-10 finishes in all four races completed to date. “I try not to come into a track where I’ve never raced with a preconceived notion.

“My approach for this weekend’s race at Tri-County is the same as any track I am racing on for the first time. I lean on my crew chief (Jeff Caudill) and teammate (Jamey Caudill) because they have so much experience in racing on so many of the short tracks. I am so fortunate to have access to their knowledge. I also try to talk to a lot of other guys who have raced there before. I study racing videos if they are available.

“The big goal heading into a new track is to have a good idea about what the best line is around the track before you get there,” said Snider. “I’ll have that in mind from the very first lap I turn on the track.”

Entering the Tri-County race, Brayton Haws is the points leader with 119 points. He is followed by Deac McCaskill, who has 115 points and Snider, in third with 112.

“We’ve learned the importance of being consistent and I’m proud of our record so far this season,” said Snider. “If you look at the CARS Tour points system, the two things that are striking are the importance of finishing in the top 10 and the significance of bonus points. We’ve made a concentrated effort in getting stronger in our qualifying. Starting up front is a great way to open the door to leading laps and picking up those bonus points.

“In our races, there is also a bonus point given to the driver leading the halfway lap,” offered Snider, who pilots the No. 2 “NASCAR America” Chevy. “My spotter, Paul Griffin, is really paying attention to the lap count these days and if we’re in a position to lead the halfway lap, we’ll be going for it.

“We’re heading into Tri-County with winning as the ultimate goal and confident that it’s a realistic expectation,” said Snider, son of noted NBC Sports broadcaster Marty Snider. “Tri-County is similar to Orange County in a lot of ways, with the sweeping turns and all. We have done well on this type of track in the past and know we have the potential to do so again this weekend.”

The Mooresville, N.C.-based CARS Tour is the first series of its kind to host two premier divisions running on the same track as part of the same event.
